<image:title>About - Eric T. Caldwell, Ph.D. Short Bio</image:title>
<image:caption>Eric’s experience is as eclectic as it is broad. Receiving his Ph.D. in English Language & Literature from the University of Virginia, he served ten years as a professor of English at Sweet Briar College. During this time, he served as the Founding Executive Director of the Galapagos ICE Organization, a 501(c)3 international charity dedicated to improving health care, education, and environmental consciousness in the Galapagos Islands. He worked for four years as the Director of the Blue Ridge Summer Institute for Young Artists, a three-week, residential, college-credit bearing summer program for gifted high school students in the arts. He also served in two vice presidential roles at The McGuffey Art Center, the largest and oldest artist-run art center in the region. Eric departed the college after Sweet Briar eliminated most of its academic programs in 2018 to form Caldwell Communications, a consulting group specializing in capacity building and strategic multi-channel communications for nonprofits. Since that time, he has worked to empower organizations in a wide variety of nonprofit sectors, from environmental education to health and human services, arts & culture to education. He also works as an Assistant Professor in the Master’s program for Nonprofit Leadership at the University of Lynchburg. An avid hiker, amateur geologist, figurative sculptor, and three-season river-walker (with his daughter), this year Eric is learning how to keep bees.</image:caption>

<image:title>Bio - Eric T. Caldwell, Ph.D. Short Bio</image:title>
<image:caption>Eric Caldwell earned his Ph.D. in English Language and Literature from the University of Virginia in 2008. He subsequently served for eight years as an Assistant Professor of English at Sweet Briar College, where he also directed the Blue Ridge Summer Institute for Young Artists, a residential, college-credit-bearing summer program for talented high school students in the arts. During this period, he served as co-founding Executive Director of the Galapagos ICE Organization, an international nonprofit supporting health care, education, and environmental awareness in the Galápagos Islands. He also served in multiple vice-presidential roles at Charlottesville’s McGuffey Art Center. Following his tenure at Sweet Briar, Eric founded Caldwell Communications, a consulting practice specializing in nonprofit capacity building, fundraising and development, and strategic communications. His work is grounded in an understanding that effective fundraising grows from organizational coherence: clear mission and strategy, well-designed internal systems, thoughtful communication among staff and leadership, and an external voice capable of building trust with donors, partners, and communities. Through this integrated approach, he has helped organizations across environmental education, health and human services, arts and culture, and education strengthen their development efforts, communications, and institutional capacity. He currently serves as an Assistant Professor (Adj.) in the University of Lynchburg’s Master of Nonprofit Leadership program, where he brings this experience in nonprofit systems, development, and communications strategy into the graduate classroom.</image:caption>
